Biography

Jon Luthro

With scant middle school and high school education, Jon Luthro trained as an electrician and worked first as an electrician at Chicago Northwestern Railroad, then as a High Voltage Electrician at the University of Iowa.

He began a non-traditional college career at the age of thirty at Kirkwood Community College, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In 1991, he moved to Texas where he attended The University of Texas at San Antonio. There he co-edited the university poetry periodical, Cactus Alley. He received the first ever awarded Davidson-Shaddux Award for Poetry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

In 1993, he attended Texas State University where he graduated with an MFA in Poetry.

Jon lived in Portland, Oregon for ten years before moving back to his hometown of Dubuque, Iowa, where he currently lives and continues to write poetry.

Jon has published in many literary journals and periodicals. His two collections of poetry are entitled, River Road, and His Castle and Its Grounds.

“I stand at the window and say to the pane, and to the car, and to the driver who may see me. I say, Hello, I see you. I am here.”
